If We Had To Do It Over Again: Implementing Learner Autonomy in the 21st century
Zirve University, Gaziantep / Turkey
1 June – 3 June, 2010
Welcome to the Website of the First International Foreign Language Teaching Conference of Zirve University.
Zirve University, a promising new higher education institution in Gaziantep, Turkey, is proud of its dedication to excellence in foreign language learning. As a sign of this commitment, we are hosting the First International Foreign Language Teaching Conference. We invite you to join us for this special event. This conference will bring together key figures in the field of learner autonomy / independent learning who are active in the AILA Research Network on Learner Autonomy and who meet periodically at the Independent Learning Association Conference (ILAC). In a sense, this conference could be considered an extension of the AILA ReN and of ILAC, bringing together language educators from around the globe who would like to promote learner autonomy and create learning environments that facilitate independent language learning. We are also proud that the conference is being officially "Supported by the AILA Research Network on Learner Autonomy in Language Learning".
The theme of the upcoming conference is If We Had To Do It Over Again: Implementing Learner Autonomy in the 21st century. This event will provide a forum for world-famous language educators to present and discuss both the theoretical and practical aspects of innovations in the field of learner autonomy, with a special focus on the needs of the 21st century. In hosting such a conference during the first year since its founding, Zirve University hopes to demonstrate its commitment to furthering excellence in foreign language learning and instruction. In particular, it is our intent to pioneer significant developments in independent language learning in Turkey.
At this conference, leaders in this field will address different aspects of learner autonomy in order to develop an overall picture of the field and shine a light on its future. The conference will clearly be a wonderful opportunity for all of us as language educators to expand our expertise in this area.
